In the loneliness, the world’s pull was strong. Lust whispered false comfort. Culture told her she deserved to indulge, to “find herself,” to take what felt good after so much pain. But again, God’s voice cut through: “You are Mine.” He wasn’t condemning her—He was protecting her. He reminded her that her value wasn’t found in another relationship but in being His daughter. And even when she stumbled, His mercies were new every morning.
Parenting in the middle of all this was its own kind of heartbreak. Watching her children wrestle with the absence of their father tore her open in ways she didn’t expect. Her daughter’s eyes carried questions she couldn’t answer. Her son’s heart carried wounds she couldn’t heal – sadly, he got the brunt of it as he was the oldest. It felt unfair, overwhelming, and at times impossible. Some nights she wept, begging God to show her how to parent when she herself felt so broken. And His answer came steady and clear: “They are Mine.”
That promise became her anchor. She could not heal every wound, but He could. She could not be both mother and father, but He was the Father who would never leave them – For God has said, “I will never fail you. I will never abandon you.” Hebrews 13:5. Where her strength ended, His began. She clung to this as if it were the very air she was breathing. “Protect them Lord, heal their wounds and draw them closer to you!” She cried out.
There were days she wondered if the pain would ever end. But scripture whispered comfort: “In his kindness God called you to share in his eternal glory by means of Christ Jesus. So after you have suffered a little while, he will restore, support, and strengthen you, and he will place you on a firm foundation.” (1 Peter 5:10, NLT).
Slowly, she began to see the restoration. Not in the return of what she had lost, but in the new life God was shaping within her. Her ex-husband was not in control of her story, even if it felt that way at times. The court dates, the broken promises, the sharp reminders of betrayal—none of them could define her. Only God could. She clung to Philippians 4:6: “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” (NLT). Prayer replaced anxiety. Trust began to replace fear.
Through it all, she and God formed a bond unlike anything she had known before. He became her strength when she had none, her protector when she felt unsafe, her healer when wounds cut deep, and her faithful provider when she had no idea how she’d make ends meet. Every morning, she woke up to new mercies. Every night, she laid her head down knowing she wasn’t alone. There was so much peace and comfort despite facing the biggest storm of her life.
Looking back, she didn’t just see a marriage that ended. She saw a God who rescued her from misplaced worship and gently reminded her where her true identity lay. She saw a God who took her brokenness and began building something beautiful out of it. She saw a God who claimed her heart again and again with the words she needed most: “You are Mine.”
Her story wasn’t rewritten by betrayal. It was rewritten by redemption and restoration to where she belonged from the beginning of her story. And now, even as she continues to face the struggles of single motherhood, she does so with a confidence that nothing—not divorce, not abandonment, not fear—can separate her from the love of Christ.
Because the truth that carries her through it all is simple but unshakable: She was His all along. She laid down her own script she’d been writing and placed the pen in God’s hands—the Author and Creator of the most beautiful story.
