The Power of Agreement: What Every Christian Should Know

There is a spiritual principle of agreement that many Believers in Christ have never heard of and certainly do not know its impact in their lives, but the power of agreement in the spirit realm is huge. What and who we agree with matters. First, we must establish that there is an unseen (or spirit) realm. Check out the following:

Col. 1:16-17: For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.

Eph. 6:12: For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.

Things happen in the spirit realm all the time that impact our lives in the seen realm. In other words, things are happening that you cannot see that will eventually impact what you do see.  This is why the power of agreement matters. As a Believer in Christ, you have a lot of power.  Jesus tells the Disciples in Luke 10:19, “Behold, I have given you authority to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall hurt you.” Many of us don’t know our spiritual authority and certainly don’t act on it. As a Believer in Christ Jesus, our words, thoughts, and actions carry weight. Each of those things – words, thoughts, and actions – are driven by what we are coming into agreement with. They carry incredible power and can often land us in deep spiritual trouble or can shift an immense spiritual breakthrough in our lives.

“I also tell you this: If two of you agree here on earth concerning anything you ask, my Father in heaven will do it for you.”

We see here that when two Believers gather and agree on a matter, our Heavenly Father will do it. This is the power of agreement. In other words, when someone needs healing or a miracle in their finances, two Christians can gather and pray, petitioning the Lord for a supernatural miracle. Agreements matter. Spiritual agreement is deeper than prayer. Prayer is important, of course, but in some cases, we can have a Believer pray with us, but they are not in full agreement in their mind, mouth, and actions. Agreement is a deep spiritual action of believing God’s Word in our minds, speaking it with our mouths, and acting upon it.

"A person standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer. Three are even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken."

This further illustrates the power of agreement. As two or three Christians gather and agree, we see they are not easily broken. It’s not just about the gathering; it’s about the spiritual agreement. In other words, when the Body of Christ agrees on a matter, the agreement carries weight in the unseen realm –agreeance in action, mind, and mouth. We must not come into agreement with the enemy with our words, our minds, or our actions.

Blessing and cursings flow from the tongue. (Check out James 3!) The tongue has the power to impact our lives positively and negatively. This is the power of agreement – we can agree with the enemy of our soul or the Creator of it! In other words, the Kingdom of Darkness or Kingdom of Heaven has a system of agreement.

Our minds also matter! What is going on in our minds is huge. We can say – Oh, girl, I’m good. I’ve forgiven them. I’m healed. And it is good to speak positive things aloud. But….your mind must agree with what you are saying in order to experience true freedom. The lies the enemy whispers to us are the ways in which he strategizes bringing death to our lives. He whispers lies that we aren’t good enough or that we’ll never make it out of the hardship we face today. And too often, we agree with him (even unintentionally or even when we say we don’t aloud). We begin to meditate on these lies in full agreement in our minds, and the results lead to poor decision-making or years of feeling stuck. We’re in constant bondage, because we have come into agreement with Satan and the Kingdom of Darkness in our minds, our mouths, and our actions. These things are shaping our life.

Agreement matters. Some of you wonder today why you are stuck or facing immense difficulties, it is because you have not learned your spiritual authority and operated in full agreement with the Kingdom of God.

Full agreement with the Kingdom of God includes speaking God’s Word, decreeing and declaring it, despite what you see. It includes watching your thought life to ensure it aligns with the truth of God’s Word and not lies from the enemy. It includes behaving in ways that please the Lord and align with Kingdom principles.

The power of agreement is a powerful Kingdom principle that can shift your entire life, but it will require discipline in the mind, mouth, and actions. Instead of agreeing with defeat, lies, and death and the Kingdom of Darkness, we can declare what the Kingdom of Heaven says about us through Scripture, coming into agreement with the Lord. (Hint: Say these aloud!)

  • I am chosen, loved, and forgiven in Christ. (1 John 3:1, 1 John 1:9) These lies that nobody wants me and I am always going to be the way I am – I tear down right now in Jesus’ name. I refuse to live in agreement with it anymore.

  • I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13) These lies that I cannot lose weight or get a better job or my back is hurting, so I can’t get around good – I tear it down now in Jesus’ name.

  • I am blessed and highly favored. (Psalm 5:12) – These lies that they are always overlooking me on my job. They are just trying to keep me down. I tear down that lie right now in Jesus’ name.

  • My needs are fully met in Jesus. (Philippians 4:19) – These lies that we never have enough, every time I turn around it’s something – I tear it down now in Jesus’ name.

  • I am healed by His stripes. (Isaiah 53:5, 1 Peter 2:24) – These lies that says – Girl, you know breast cancer runs in my family. They say it skips a generation and this is my generation, I tear it down now in Jesus’ name.

  • I have authority over the enemy. (Luke 10:19) – Girl, this boy is so bad, I’m worried he’s gonna wind up in jail. I come out of agreement with that lie now in Jesus name!

These truths are not just encouraging phrases. They are spiritual declarations backed by God’s Word. Speak them boldly. Let your heart and mouth come into agreement with the truth. I AM a victor! I AM the head and not the tail! I CAN do all things! I have NOT been given the spirit of fear! They are endless, and what you agree with matters. Let your mouth come into agreement with heaven.

Questions to Consider

  • What have you come into agreement with—intentionally or unintentionally—that contradicts God’s Word? Words spoken in frustration, fear, or pain can still carry spiritual weight.

  • Have you come into agreement with the enemy in your mind? Reflect on phrases you’ve said or believed that may have given the enemy access to your heart or mind.

  • What truth from God’s Word do you need to declare daily that replaces lies you’ve agreed with? How might this intentional daily practice create freedom in your life?

Serving Others Even When You Don’t Feel Like It

Servanthood is widely recognized as an effective way to shift focus from oneself to others, even during times of extreme personal difficulty, such as loss, divorce, trauma, abandonment, or others. In fact, even in secular counseling and cultural norms, many will agree that volunteerism is a common way to stabilize during a mental health crisis or seasons of overwhelm. If that is so, how much more should a Christian want to serve others? Why do you think service above self improves one’s mental health?   Here’s why. Our Savior taught it. The very Creator of Heaven and Earth sent His Son to serve others, and He modeled it. In other words, you were created to serve. It is our purpose on the earth. First, we serve our Savior through worship and praise. Then,

The Fierce Love of a Special Needs Single Mama by Brandi Davis

Motherhood changes you, every mom knows this. But being a special needs mama—especially a single one—this transforms you from the inside out. The days are filled with silent battles most never see: endless therapies, appointments, IEP meetings, insurance appeals, and the constant fight to secure care that never seems simple – but is essential.  It’s carrying a child who is far too heavy to be held, but still needs you like an infant. It’s wiping tears during meltdowns that don’t have easy fixes, whispering comfort when you feel like crying too.  It’s waiting on hold with insurance, filling out paperwork that sits on a stranger’s desk, and fighting systems that were never built with kids like yours in mind.  And as a single mama, that load feels

The Holy Assignment of Motherhood by Jennifer Maggio

My mother was killed when I was only 17 months old, leaving me spending years yearning for a mother I never knew.  There were dance recitals and basketball games and proms and a wedding day that I often wondered how she’d react or what encouraging words she may have had for me. When I became a single mother at only 17 years old, I felt certain that I was doomed to fail my own motherhood story. I had never really had a mother and was far too young to begin that journey – especially alone. In reflection, my three children are all now grown, and I’ve successfully sojourned my parenting years, albeit with some long and hard seasons in between!  I’ve lived to tell about it. I’ve lived through the good days of squeezes and cuddles and
